General terms of use and pricing of Musée Curie’s digital reproductions
These general terms of use govern the conditions under which Musée Curie grants its users the right to use reproductions of the collections it preserves and disseminates. Any further reproduction is subject to the state of preservation of the document. Reproduction of these collections is managed by the Association Curie et Joliot-Curie (ACJC).
Musée Curie will not provide more than 20 images per project/request. When the project is subject to conditions of free provision, only the first 10 photographs are provided free of charge. Beyond that, usage/service charges shall be applied. Pricing is shown below
Conditions of assignment of images
Under these conditions, the user is granted only a limited right to reproduce, represent or draw inspiration from Musée Curie’s collections.
The digital images granted by Musée Curie are granted solely for the use indicated by the user on the reproduction request form sent to Musée Curie. Any other use or reuse of images granted will be subject to a new agreement. Under no circumstances will users acquire material ownership of the documents sent to them by Musée Curie, regardless of the medium used.
Protection of works, items or persons represented
Digital reproductions may be subject to a literary and artistic property right or an industrial property right, a related right, a right of personality, a moral right, a property right or other rights belonging to a third party. The authorization granted by Musée Curie does not include authorizations relating to the exploitation of intellectual works, trademarks, images of persons or items represented by images. The user is solely responsible for obtaining the necessary authorizations and negotiating the rights relating to the works, items and persons represented in the images with their rights-holders. Consequently, the user holds harmless Musée Curie against any legal remedy or dispute relating to obtaining such rights and, as such, holds harmless Musée Curie against any judgment that may be handed down against it.
Conditions of use of images
Photographic images are works protected by intellectual property law. Under French law and international agreements, the integrity and authorship of a work may not be infringed upon. No exploitation of a photographic image shall have the effect of damaging the reputation of its author, and shall not alter it or distort its meaning.
Users are solely responsible for the conditions under which they use the images, in particular by re-captioning them, combining them with other photographs or any text or image of their choice, or by modifying or cropping them without having obtained prior approval.
Any modification of the images or captions is the sole responsibility of the user, who shall indemnify and hold harmless Musée Curie against any legal remedy relating to such modifications.
Images that will be uploaded by the user for use in the publication of a website or mobile application and, more broadly, for any online use must be published in low resolution (maximum 448 x 336 pixels). The user shall ensure that any online publication will not allow Internet users to download said document reproductions in a commercially usable format.
The photo credit must be mentioned on each reproduction or representation of Musée Curie’s images. The photo credit will always be provided to the user upon delivery of reproductions or representations of the images.
The photo credit shall be placed either in relation to the image or in a table of illustrations provided for that purpose, clearly indicating the page or place where the image is reproduced. This mention must also be included in the credits of audiovisual or multimedia works that incorporate Musée Curie’s images.
Proof of use
The user agrees to send a copy of all documents drawn up relating to use of the images to Musée Curie (11 rue Pierre et Marie Curie, 75248 Paris cedex 05).
